Tile installation in Boise, done from the substrate up.

Floors, showers, backsplashes, heated floors and large-format porcelain. Every job starts with what is underneath the tile, because that is where tile installations succeed or fail.

Why substrate first

Tile fails from underneath

Almost every failed tile job we are called to look at traces to something below the finish: a floor that deflects more than the assembly allows, a slab crack that telegraphed through, a substrate that was never flat enough for the tile size, or mortar that never made real contact with the back of the tile.

None of those are fixable after grout. So we spend the first part of every project on measurement — straightedging the floor, checking joist span against the deflection limit, testing slabs for moisture, and looking at what is actually under the existing flooring.

Sometimes that means an estimate includes self-leveling underlayment or a plywood layer you were not expecting. We would rather explain why before demolition than apologize for cracked grout later.

See how a project runs
  • Flatness measured, not estimated

Large-format tile needs 1/8 inch in 10 feet. Most floors do not arrive that way, and a straightedge is the only way to know.

  • Deflection checked before stone

Tile needs L/360; natural stone needs L/720. We check the span before recommending a material your floor cannot support.

  • One waterproofing system per shower

Membrane, banding, sealant and drain from a single tested system — not a mix of brands at the corners.

  • Movement joints installed, not skipped

Soft joints at the perimeter and at changes of plane, caulked rather than grouted, so the assembly can move.

Where we work

Tile installation across the Treasure Valley

Housing here changes character every few miles — pre-war bungalows downtown, slab ranches on the Bench, and post-2010 subdivisions filling in Meridian, Kuna and Star. Each brings a different substrate and a different starting point.

Common questions

Questions we get first

What kind of tile work do you do?
Tile installation only: floors, showers, backsplashes, heated floors, large-format tile and porcelain panels, and shower waterproofing. We do not present ourselves as a general remodeling company — tile is what we do all day.
Which areas do you serve?
Boise and the surrounding Treasure Valley, including Meridian, Eagle, Nampa, Caldwell, Kuna, Star and Garden City.
Do you give estimates over the phone?
We can talk through scope on the phone, but a real number needs a look at the substrate. Flatness, deflection, moisture and what is under the existing floor change the work far more than square footage does.
Can you fix tile installed by someone else?
Yes, and we start by diagnosing why it failed. Cracked grout, hollow tiles and leaking showers all have different causes, and re-tiling over an uncorrected cause just resets the clock.
